Advanced Photoelectron Spectroscopy Laboratory for Semiconducting Materials and Electronic structure

Prof.  Soohyung Park is the principal investigator of the "Advanced Photoemission Spectroscopy for Semiconducting Materials and Electronic Structure (APS)" research group in the Department of Physics at the University of Seoul. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Yonsei University (South Korea) in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Yeonjin Yi. During his doctoral studies, his research focused on ultraviolet and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for molecular semiconductors and perovskite photovoltaics. In 2014, he received a research scholarship from Samsung Display Co., Ltd. Following his Ph.D., he relocated to Berlin, Germany, to join the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and Humboldt University as a postdoctoral researcher under Prof. Norbert Koch. That same year, he was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. During his postdoctoral period, he began investigating the electronic structure of two-dimensional materials and their interfaces. In 2019, he returned to South Korea to serve as a junior research team leader and Principal Investigator at the Advanced Analysis Center (AAC) of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Seoul. Since 2022, he has also served as an associate professor at the University of Science and Technology (UST). In 2026, he transitioned to his current role as a tenure-track professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Seoul (UOS).
